This is not a single-issue journal. While our theme revolves around the issue of bodily autonomy specifically, our mission is to provide a platform for everyone that Florida is leaving behind. Abortion is a gateway issue for many, and it has the power to radicalize, hence our name. But our interests lie in protecting the rights and interests of students, people with disabilities, people living below the poverty line, people without housing, people with and without children, LGBTQIA+ people, refugees, immigrants of all statuses, and all other people that make Florida the nuanced place that it exists as today. Despite what the media, the government, and the loudest voices in the state would have the rest of the world believe about Florida, we are still here, and we are still fighting to make this peninsula a better place. Our hope for this journal is that it will bring like-minded people together and make our voices and stories heard. Thank you for being here, and if you would like to submit work for a future issue, please send it to fiftysevenpercentlitjournal@gmail.com.
| A note on anonymity: This journal recognizes that there is privilege in speaking one’s mind completely freely. While doing so is a radical act of protest that we wholeheartedly encourage, we feel that it clashes with our core mission to force anyone to identify themselves as being associated with this journal or the work they submit that does not feel completely comfortable or safe to do so. As such, published artists are given the option to submit anonymous work. |
